Skiing in Austria
Skiing in our country Austria is the most famous sport where we can call attention to other Nations. We in Austria have the most famous skier in the world. Here in Austria are also many huge and good classic skiing areas and skiing resorts. The results of our Austrian skiers are not the best at all disciplines but in two disciplines we are unbeatable for our challengers. They were good in the 90s and earlier in the 50s. One of them was Toni Seiler. He won three Olympic Gold Medals in the games of 1956, he also won 7 Medals in the World championship 1956 and 1958. His nickname was "der schwarze Blitz aus Kitz". Franz Klammer was the best of the 70s. He won Olympic Gold in Innsbruck 1976 and he has also two Gold Medals from World championship. Hermann Maier won two Gold Medals in the Olympic Games which were really special because he had a huge crash two days before he won the Gold Medal, no one expected that he would win Gold. Hermann Maier won a lot of Medals and four World cups. Now a days we Marcel Hirscher, at the moment he is our best in Austria and the most successful skier of all time. He dominates the world cup since 2011. A part from sports skiing is our national sport. We have many Ski resorts, there are 436 official ski areas. We are one of the countries with the most ski resorts world wide.
